In a press conference on March 12, 2020, at 4pm (EST) Governor Larry Hogan declared that all events, in the State of Maryland, over 250 persons, are to be immediately cancelled to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This will include the 2020 RunSBY Events, to include the Salisbury Marathon, Salisbury Half-Marathon and RunSBY5k.
We are sad to make this announcement as we know how much hard work you have put in towards this goal. We know that you have put in endless miles, and countless hours away from your family and friends, and for that, we apologize. Please know, that as athletes ourselves, we empathize with you, and with the endurance event industry as a whole. There are very few alternative events to look at, and very few courses of actions for people to take.
That being said, the RunSBY Events will automatically be deferring every participant to the 2021 RunSBY Events, to be held on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021. Every currently registered participant will receive an email with a comped entry for the event in 2021, in the next few weeks.
All current participants will be mailed their 2020 medals and a custom Hoo Rag, with the date. We know that this is not how you wanted to get these items, but we hope that you consider tackling this distance and sharing a picture of your medal with pride on Social Media (#RunSBY).
We apologize for ALL the inconveniences that this will cause you. We hope that you continue on your fitness journey and that you will consider rejoining our event on Saturday, April 3rd, 2020.
Safe running, and be safe!
Jason Chance – Race Director, RunSBY Events
2019 was an epic day for running in the City of Salisbury and Wicomico County, Maryland! With just under 10% of our Marathoners qualifying for the 2020 Boston Marathon entry, this race is getting well known for being a great BQ event! And let's not forget our Half Marathon on the same course for 11 miles! Not ready for 26.2 or 13.1, well then try out our #RunSBY 5k event. With a start at the main finish line for the Full and Half, you are right in the mix of things when your day is over.
NEW in 2020, we are planning for some construction on our Downtown Plaza finish line, so the finish will be slightly different, but just one block over. With an expanded finish line with finish line food for the athletes and vendors, the atmosphere just screams FUN!!!
Did you know that our course is not only USATF certified (Full and Half) but is designed for our Physically Challenged athlete friends as well? Special categories exist if you are physically challenged or if you are part of a team or group that helps our Physically Challenged friends!
Come see what all of the buzz is about. With aide stations every 1.5 miles and port-o-johns at every one of them, you will find this course is one of the best supported races on the East Coast.
